Guisachan Fall

Guisachan Fall is a waterfall in the Scottish Highlands, south of Glen Affric. It stands in Srath Allt na Sìdean, about 2.5 kilometres south-west of Tomich. The waterfall is formed by the Allt na Sìdean, a tributary of the Abhainn Deabhag. The Abhainn Deabhag itself flows into the River Affric. The fall is roughly 24 to 27 metres high and sits at about 130 metres above sea level. The falls are known locally as Home Falls or Silver Falls. They lie near the ruins of Guisachan House, about 500 metres south-east of the old mansion. A path runs beside the Allt na Sìdean river to reach the falls. At the base of the waterfall are the remains of a hydro system that once powered Guisachan House. Iron rings that once held the water pipe can still be seen in the rock face. Above the falls, the remains of an ornate wrought iron footbridge span the top. In very cold weather, the waterfall freezes and has been used for ice climbing. The north-facing side freezes more easily than nearby Plodda Falls. Nearby Guisachan House was where the first Golden Retriever dogs were bred in the 1860s by Sir Dudley Marjoribanks.
