Ebersberg Castle
Schloss Ebersberg stands in the quiet woods of Auenwald, a small village in the Regierungsbezirk Stuttgart. Built in the early 12th century, it first appeared in records in 1226. A fire in 1714 left little standing, but the Cistercian monastery in Schöntal rebuilt it around 1720. The castle’s long history is visible in its stone walls and arched windows. It once served as a monastery before becoming a private residence. Today it mixes medieval strength with 18th-century elegance. The castle draws visitors for its giant sequoia, the tallest in Germany. This towering tree stands in the castle grounds, a living monument to nature’s scale. The Identitarian movement held an event here in 2020, bringing attention to the site. Yet its main appeal remains the contrast between old stone and living green. The sequoia’s height and age make it a striking landmark. Inside, visitors find rooms arranged around a central courtyard. Wooden beams and plaster walls show the 18th-century rebuild. Outside, paths wind through the parkland, offering views of the castle and the tall sequoia. The setting is peaceful, far from busy towns. The castle’s mix of history and nature makes it a quiet but impressive place to walk and reflect.
