Zadní Kopanina

Zadní Kopanina lies on the edge of Prague where the city meets the Central Bohemian countryside. It is the smallest district by population and one of the least densely settled parts of the capital, with only about a hundred residents spread across thirty-six addresses. Five quiet lanes—Chaloupky, K Zadní Kopanině, Na Zmrzlíku, Kavylová and U Skopců—wind through the area, ending at the protected landscape of Český kras. The district preserves a handful of cultural and natural landmarks. Maškův mlýn, an old water mill, is listed as a cultural monument, while the nearby Zmrzlík nature reserve protects rare plants and insects. A large farmstead called Zmrzlík and the restored Taslarův mlýn stand beside the lanes, their whitewashed walls and tiled roofs recalling the 19th century. Visitors follow the lane called Na Zmrzlíku to reach the nature reserve, where boardwalks cross damp meadows and limestone outcrops. The mill buildings sit beside a small stream, their machinery still in place. From the reserve’s edge there are views across fields to the forested ridges of Český kras, the only sound the wind in the grass and the occasional car on the lane to Řeporyje.
