Pfarrkirche Unzmarkt

The Catholic parish church of St Mary Magdalene stands in Unzmarkt, a village in the Murtal district of Styria. Its Gothic choir dates from the 14th century, while the rest of the building was remodelled in the 18th century. The church and its former cemetery are protected as a listed monument. The church’s west tower rises three storeys and carries a stepped Baroque cap. Inside, the four-bay nave has cross-ribbed vaults and side chapels that give the plan a cross shape. A life-size statue of St John of Nepomuk by Balthasar Prandtstätter stands near the west door. The high altar, side altars and pulpit were carved in 1748 by Franz Joseph Grimer. The Baroque organ was built in 1878 by Karl Hesse and installed here in 1933. The Gothic choir ends in a five-sided apse with ribbed vaulting on corbels.
