Burg Möhringen (Stuttgart)

The Burg Möhringen was a medieval stronghold in the district of Möhringen, now part of Stuttgart. It stood in the Burgäcker field near the Spitalhof farm. The site has long been abandoned, with only traces remaining in the landscape. The castle was built by the local noble family of Möhringen, first recorded in 1100 with Engelbold von Möhringen. In 1164, during the Tübingen Feud, Pfalzgraf Hugo II. of Tübingen destroyed the castle after executing welfische ministeriales who lived there. The ruins were still mentioned as a Burgstall in 1306 and 1396. The family later lived modestly near the village church and died out by the 15th century. Today, visitors find a quiet field where the castle once stood. The area is marked by a gentle rise and a few scattered stones. Nearby, the old village church and the Spitalhof farm recall the time when the Möhringen family lived in the area. The site offers a glimpse into Stuttgart’s medieval past without modern distractions.
