The Graf-Überacker-Palais is a Baroque palace in Salzburg’s Altstadt, standing at the corner of Dreifaltigkeitsgasse and Makartplatz. Its origins trace back to 1601 when a new building was recorded near St Andrew’s Gate. In 1723 Wolf Maximilian Graf Überacker purchased it and converted it into an aristocratic residence. A century later the façade was remodelled while retaining its Baroque character. In 1912 architect Bruno Grüner redesigned the interior yet preserved the original Baroque frontage.
The palace’s three-storey façade features rusticated ground-floor walls and neo-Baroque window frames. Its central portal on Makartplatz dates from the 18th century and is crowned by a wrought-iron fanlight. After serving as a post office until 2011, the building now houses among other uses the German Consulate. The structure remains under Denkmalschutz, recognised as an official historic monument.
Visitors find a preserved Baroque residence whose exterior still reflects its 18th-century grandeur. The main entrance on Makartplatz leads into spaces once occupied by postal counters. Inside, the neo-Baroque detailing and original layout offer glimpses of aristocratic life. The quiet corner site links the palace to Salzburg’s historic centre and the Salzach river.
