Lippekogel

The Lippekogel is a 1,079-metre mountain near Brückl in the Austrian province of Kärnten. It stands in the Gurktal Alps, surrounded by gentle slopes and dense forests. South of the summit the long-distance trail known as the Kärntner Mariazellerweg passes close by. Paragliders and hang-gliders use the broad meadows on the southern flank as a launch site. The mountain is best known for its 83-metre steel lattice tower built by the ORF. The tower’s base sits at 942 metres above sea level, giving it a clear view across the surrounding valleys. Radio and television signals for the region are transmitted from this high point. The open steel structure contrasts with the wooded landscape below. Visitors reach the site along forest tracks that climb from the surrounding villages. At the tower there is a small paved platform for observation. From the top of the structure the Gurk valley and the Karawanken mountains can be seen on clear days. The meadows around the base are dotted with wild flowers in summer. The combination of technology and nature makes the Lippekogel a distinctive viewpoint.
