Schloss Satzdorf

Schloss Satzdorf stands in the village of Satzdorf, a district of Runding in the Upper Palatinate region of Bavaria. It was once a lowland castle built between the Chamb and Regen rivers on flat meadowland. The site is now marked only by archaeological traces listed as a Bavarian monument.

The castle’s history begins in the 13th century with a local noble family called the Satzdorfers. Their open-plough coat of arms appears on records from 1375 to 1410. After the family died out in 1413 the estate passed through several owners, including the Perkheimers and the Nothafft knights. In 1488 it became a manor farm under Albrecht Perkheimer. A Hussite battle fought nearby in 1429 shows the site’s military past.

Today a two-storey farmhouse built in 1875 occupies the old castle grounds. Its stepped gable and entrance porch sit where the medieval manor once stood. Nearby barns reuse the foundations of the original farmyard. The quiet riverside setting still reflects the castle’s position in the valley between the Chamb and Regen.
