Schloss Dettenheim stands in Dettenheim, a village south of the town of Weißenburg in Bavaria’s Mittelfranken region. The single-storey building with its mansard hipped roof and cellar was commissioned in 1782 by the Marshals of Pappenheim from master builder Sebastian Man(t)z of Ellwangen. Its design copies the Pappenheim poorhouse on Alexander-Beck-Straße, creating a modest yet elegant country seat.

The estate is protected as a listed monument, and its large garden also carries heritage status. A draw-well and a 1792 obelisk mark the grounds, while a barn built in 1814 was converted in 1956 into the Scheunenkirche Dettenheim St. Gunthildis. Before then, the castle’s Blue Hall served the local Catholic congregation as a prayer room.

Visitors walk past the Scheunenkirche and the obelisk to reach the main building. The garden’s open lawns and mature trees frame the low stone façade, giving a quiet sense of 18th-century rural life. Inside, the modest interiors recall the Marshals of Pappenheim’s brief occupation of the site.
