Schloss Prantseck

Schloss Prantseck stands in the spa town of Bad Aibling in Bavaria. It began as a noble residence built in the 16th century by the Lords of Prant above the Hofmühle mill. After the family died out soon afterwards, the building passed through many hands over the following centuries. In the 17th and 18th centuries it was enlarged and extended. The surrounding park dates from the 19th century. The castle once served as a health clinic and housed a public indoor swimming pool run by a local group. The pool closed in October 2013 after engineers found it unsafe. Discussions have since taken place about converting the building into a care home for the elderly. Visitors today see a historic brick structure set in a landscaped park. The main building retains its late-medieval and early-modern character despite later changes. Archaeologists have recorded buried traces of the original castle and its predecessor on the site. The park’s mature trees and pathways date from the 19th-century layout.
