Filialkirche Edlitz

The Filialkirche Edlitz is a small Roman Catholic church in the village of Edlitz in Burgenland. It stands in the village centre beside the Geschriebenstein road, a simple modern building with a square west tower and a single pitched roof. The tower has round windows and tall round-arched openings, while the side walls are broken by similar tall windows. Built in 1963 by the master mason Michael Binder from Kirchfidisch, it was the first Catholic church in Edlitz. The interior is a plain rectangular hall under a flat trapezoidal ceiling, with a raised chancel at the far end. A round window lights the apse, and above the entrance an organ gallery with a plain balustrade overlooks the space. Inside, the high altar holds a tabernacle shrine, and in front stand the people’s altar, the lectern and a harmonium. On the north side of the chancel a small rectangular annexe and on the south a larger one both carry low hipped roofs. The church’s quiet setting and unadorned lines give it a calm presence in the heart of the village.
