Druim Fada
Druim Fada is a mountain in the Northwest Highlands of Scotland. It stands on the northern shore of Loch Hourn in Ross and Cromarty. The mountain has a long, craggy ridge that stretches for several kilometres along the loch’s northern side. Arnisdale, the nearest village, lies to the west of the ridge. Walkers usually start their ascent from Corran to the west or Kinlochhourn to the east. The summit is marked by a rock about five metres west-northwest of the cairn. The ridge offers several walking routes for those who want to reach the top. The views from the summit look down the length of Loch Hourn. On clear days the water below appears almost black against the surrounding hills. The mountain’s steep sides and rocky outcrops make it a challenge for even experienced walkers. The ridge’s length and height give a sense of scale that is hard to find elsewhere in the Highlands. At the top, the cairn and the marker rock provide a place to rest. The ridge’s long line can be followed east and west from the summit. The contrast between the dark water of the loch and the pale rock of the ridge is striking. The air is often still at the top, making the silence as noticeable as the view. The walk back down follows the same routes used on the way up.
