Walthamstow F.C.

Walthamstow Football Club is a semi-professional football club in Walthamstow, part of the London Borough of Waltham Forest. They play in the Isthmian League North Division and have carried several names, most recently Waltham Forest until 2018. Before that they were Leyton Pennant and, originally, Pennant Football Club formed in 1959 by William Bode. The club’s history includes league titles and cup wins across different competitions. Pennant won the South West Essex League Premier Division in 1972–73 and the Metropolitan League at their first attempt. In 1990–91 they claimed the Spartan League title and League Cup double under manager Hakan Ramis-Hayrettin. The youth team reached the last 16 of the FA Youth Cup in 2005–06, beating West Bromwich Albion’s youth side. Visitors find a club that has moved between grounds and names while keeping ties to Walthamstow. The team now plays at Wadham Lodge Sports Ground on Kitchener Road. Recent seasons have seen league changes and ownership shifts, including a return to the borough in 2013 after five years in Ilford. The club’s current identity, Walthamstow F.C., was adopted in 2018 under new ownership led by Lee Doherty.
