Sähre

The Sähre is a hill in the Upland region of northern Hesse, part of the Rothaargebirge range. It stands near the village of Usseln, with Eimelrod and Hemmighausen to the north and Willingen to the west. The Diemel river flows past its western slopes, while the Mülmecke stream rises on its southern side. The hill reaches just over 740 metres, though older maps mark it at 726 metres. It belongs to the Inneres Upland natural area within the Süderbergland region. To the east, the landscape shifts into the Flechtdorfer Höckerflur. The Bundesstraße 251 and the Uplandbahn railway run close by, providing access for walkers. Visitors find quiet forest tracks and open heathland on the Sähre’s upper slopes. The views stretch across rolling countryside towards the Sauerland hills. Starting from Usseln or Eimelrod, walkers can follow well-marked paths up through mixed woodland. The summit area offers wide, open spaces with few distractions, ideal for a peaceful hilltop pause.
