Museum für Ur- und Frühgeschichte Frauwalde
The Museum für Ur- und Frühgeschichte Frauwalde stands in the Lossatal valley village of Frauwalde in Saxony. It is run by the local heritage society and displays archaeological finds from the region. The collection traces human settlement here over the last seven thousand years, from Neolithic farmers to medieval settlers. The museum’s holdings include Bronze Age burial mounds and a unique runestone. The mounds, dated between 1400 and 900 BC, once held stone cists covered with slabs and earth. Nearby, the Teufelsstein runestone bears artificial grooves and a sacrificial hollow. In the 1930s, extremists tried to destroy it to erase old beliefs. Inside, the permanent exhibition shows tools, pottery and jewellery from the Stone, Bronze and Iron Ages. A video guide with projected images explains daily life in each period. Text panels and reproductions of artefacts help visitors follow the story from early farmers to the 12th-century German settlers.
