Aumeister stands at the northern edge of Munich’s Englischer Garten, beside the Föhringer Ring and near the Studentenstadt area. It began in 1803 when the hunt master’s house was moved to this meadow as part of the new Kulturheim neighbourhood. In 1810–11 the master builder Joseph Deiglmayr built a two-storey neoclassical inn on the site. The building is now protected and still serves as a pub with a large beer garden. The name Aumeister comes from its original role as the hunt master’s residence.

The inn quickly became a favoured spot for hunting guests and later for Munich’s upper class. By 1845 it was praised as a comfortable place to refresh after the chase. In 1972 it marked the turnaround point for the men’s marathon during the Munich Olympics. Blue route markings remained in the park for more than twenty years afterwards. The building’s neoclassical style and protected status add to its character.

Visitors find a two-storey inn with a hip roof set among the meadows of the Englischer Garten. The beer garden stretches south of the building, offering space for thousands of guests. The surrounding meadows and nearby river meadows provide a quiet contrast to the city. The protected neoclassical structure stands close to the Föhringer Ring and the Studentenstadt area.
