The Schumannhaus Bonn stands in the Endenich district of Bonn. Built around 1790 in the classical style, it originally served as a country house for a local official. Later it became a private psychiatric clinic where notable figures such as painters Carl Gehrts and Mihály von Munkácsy received treatment. Today the building houses a museum and the city’s music library.

It is worth visiting for its connection to Robert Schumann, who died here in 1856 after two years as a patient. Schumann’s small memorial rooms on the first floor display letters and documents from the Bonn city archive. The house also hosts concerts by the Beethoven Orchestra during festivals such as the Bonner Schumannfest. A bronze bust of Schumann, created by Alfred Hrdlicka, stands outside the entrance.

Inside, visitors find the Schumann memorial rooms with facsimiles of letters and personal items. The ground floor now contains the music library, which holds about 51,000 books, scores and recordings. The first-floor reading room is used for chamber concerts. The building is protected as a historic monument and remains a quiet place for reflection on Schumann’s life and work.
