The University of Worcester stands in the historic city of Worcester in the West Midlands. Its main campus, St John’s, occupies a site once used by the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. The university began as a teacher training college in 1946 and gained full university status in 2005. Over the years it has grown to include several campuses across the city. Each site reflects different aspects of the university’s work, from arts and sciences to nursing and business. The university also runs an outdoor education centre in the Worcestershire countryside.

The university is recognised for its strong links with local communities and organisations. The Hive, a joint project with Worcestershire County Council, houses a public and university library alongside archives and council services. City Campus occupies the former Worcester Royal Infirmary, where eighteenth-century buildings designed by Anthony Keck have been restored. The Art House, converted from a 1930s garage, is one of the UK’s most sustainable buildings. Worcester Arena provides a venue for sports, events and disability sports training.

Visitors to the university find modern facilities alongside historic settings. St John’s Campus includes a sports centre, digital arts centre and halls of residence. Riverside hosts a 2,000-seat arena and art space beside the River Severn. Lakeside Campus offers outdoor activities on a 50-acre site with a watersports lake and woodlands. The planned University Park will add further teaching and business spaces over the next fifteen years. The university’s environmental work has earned national awards for sustainability.
