Moorgate tube station

Moorgate station stands in the City of London, a central London railway terminus linked to the London Underground. It serves main line trains to Hertford North, Welwyn Garden City and Stevenage, alongside Circle, Hammersmith & City, Metropolitan and Northern line Underground services. The station sits in London fare zone 1 and has entrances on Moorgate and Moorfields. The station opened as Moorgate Street in 1865 by the Metropolitan Railway and later became part of the City & South London Railway in 1900. In 1904 the Great Northern & City Railway began services, and in 1975 the Northern City Line platforms were the site of the Moorgate tube crash, the worst peacetime accident on the London Underground. The station’s layout includes three levels with platforms for main line, Underground and former Thameslink services. Visitors find platforms for Circle, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines on the upper levels, with Northern line platforms deeper below. Former Thameslink platforms are now used for storage, while main line services run to Welwyn Garden City and Stevenage. The station connects to London Buses routes 21, 43, 76, 100, 141 and 153, and a new ticket hall links to the Elizabeth line at Liverpool Street.
