Schloss Truppach
Burg Truppach stands in the village of Truppach, part of Mistelgau in Upper Franconia. Once a water-filled fortress, it became a private schloss after the 16th century. The site lies beside the Truppach stream, whose name it carries. The castle’s past is tied to the Truppach family, first mentioned in 1059. In 1523 imperial troops destroyed it to end raids by the robber-knight Hans Thomas von Absberg. Rebuilt with Bamberg timber, it later passed through noble hands until private owners erased its records. Today the ground floor is lived in, while upper floors remain original but empty. Visitors see a two-storey stone basement with one small window, above which timber-framed upper floors rise. Corner watch-turrets mark each corner of the great hall. A central tower shows a wide opening like the Waldsteinburg. The right-hand keep, reached by a passage, has a projecting machicolation. Outside, the old woodcut shows soldiers sorting loot before the gate, while a small chapel sits in the upper corner of the scene.
