Crown Ground

The Crown Ground is a football stadium in Accrington, Lancashire. It has been the home of Accrington Stanley since 1968. The ground is also known as Wham Stadium due to a sponsorship deal. It stands in an area called the Crown Ground, surrounded by open land. The stadium has a capacity of 5,450 and is mostly used for football matches. The stadium is worth visiting for its atmosphere and history. A record crowd of 5,397 watched an FA Cup match here in 2019. The record attendance has been broken several times in recent years. The ground has seen Stanley rise from the Northern Premier League to League One. The fans, known as the Stanley Ultras, create a strong atmosphere in the home end. Visitors find four main stands at the Crown Ground. The Jack Barrett Memorial Stand is the newest and runs half the length of the pitch. The Clayton End, also called the Sophia Khan Stand, is the home end and has a covered terrace. The Whinney Hill Terrace, or Cowshed, has a roof held up by pillars and a television gantry. The Coppice End is the away end and can hold up to 1,800 supporters. The Eric Whalley Stand, opened in 2019, replaced part of the old Whinney Hill Terrace.
