Wireless in Wales Museum
The Wireless in Wales Museum stands in the Clwyd Language Centre at Pwll y Grawys in Denbigh. It occupies a single room filled with radios from the David E Jones collection. The display traces how Welsh people helped shape radio technology over the decades. David E Jones wrote the book Wireless in Wales before he died in 2008. He had campaigned hard for the creation of the Language Centre where the museum now sits.
The collection shows more than two hundred radios arranged by date and maker. Visitors see crystal sets, valve receivers and transistor models that tell the story of technical change. Welsh speakers played key roles in early broadcasting and in building local stations. The exhibition recognises their contribution with photographs and captions in both languages. A short film plays continuously in one corner of the room.
Outside the museum door lies the language centre’s garden with benches and a small patio. Inside, the radio display is lit by natural light from a high window. A table holds leaflets about Welsh-medium education and community radio. The quiet atmosphere lets visitors study the radios at their own pace. The room also serves as a meeting space for local groups in the evenings.
