Holy Family Church

The Catholic parish church of the Holy Family stands in Böhlerwerk, a village in the Sonntagberg municipality of Amstetten district in Lower Austria. It belongs to the Waidhofen an der Ybbs deanery in the diocese of St Pölten and is protected as a listed monument. Built in 1912 as a steel church, the present building was completed in 1972 to designs by architect Rainer Bergmann with master builder Richard Wawrowetz. The church forms a group of concrete cubes with a western bell tower and a square central hall topped by a concrete coffered ceiling. Inside, the sculptor Josef Schagerl created steel-sheet figures of the Holy Family, the tabernacle and the Stations of the Cross reliefs. The 1974 organ comes from Johann Pirchner of Stainach am Brenner. The church’s simple concrete lines contrast with the richly worked metal furnishings.
