Museumszentrum Mistelbach

The Museum Centre in Mistelbach stands on the site of a former factory for farm tools. The complex opened in 2007 and now houses two museums. One is the nitsch museum, the largest single-artist museum in Austria, and the other is the MAMUZ Museum Mistelbach, which focuses on 40,000 years of human history. The MAMUZ Museum Mistelbach presents changing exhibitions across 800 square metres. It works closely with the MAMUZ Schloss Asparn site to cover prehistory and the early Middle Ages. The nitsch museum displays rotating selections from Hermann Nitsch’s wide-ranging work in a 60-metre hall. Both museums share a programme of special exhibitions that draw national attention. Visitors walk through the converted factory buildings to find spacious galleries. The Schmiede/Kapelle building and a smaller hall offer extra displays. Outside, the Dionysosweg path leads from the museums into landscaped surroundings. The route is designed to give a calm, natural finish to a day of looking at art and archaeology.
