Schloss Vestenbergsgreuth

Schloss Vestenbergsgreuth stands in the village of Vestenbergsgreuth in Mittelfranken. It is a former noble residence built of sandstone blocks with corner pilasters and a mansard roof. The present building dates from 1785, though it incorporates older walls from the 14th or 15th century. The site was once held by the lords of Vestenberg until their line died out in 1687. After that the Holzschuher von Harrlach family owned the estate from 1756 onward. The building is recognised as a protected monument under Bavarian law. Its two-storey structure and half-hipped mansard roof are clearly visible today. Archaeologists have also recorded medieval and early modern remains beneath the courtyard and surrounding ground. These buried traces include parts of the original medieval castle that once occupied the spot. A visitor finds a quiet country house framed by its own modest park. The sandstone walls and pilasters give the façade a plain but dignified appearance. Inside, the older masonry survives behind later finishes, while the 1785 layout still guides movement through the rooms. The surrounding village preserves the atmosphere of a small Franconian estate community.
