Perschitzkopf
The Hoher Perschitzkopf is a 3,125-metre peak in the Schobergruppe of the Hohe Tauern range. It stands about twelve kilometres north of Lienz in East Tyrol, on the border with Carinthia. The normal route is straightforward when snow-free and dry. From the summit, clear weather reveals views across the Schobergruppe to peaks such as the Petzeck and Hochschober. The first ascent was made on 26 July 1890 by Mathias Marcher and Ludwig Purtscheller. Surveyors may have reached the top earlier for mapping purposes. The usual route starts from either the Wangenitzseehütte or the Adolf-Noßberger-Hütte, passing through the Hohe Gradenscharte at 2,803 metres before climbing the unmarked South Ridge. A shorter alternative is the Östliche Perschitzkopf, a 3,077-metre subsidiary summit. This route also begins at the Wangenitzseehütte, crossing scree slopes and block fields to the Perschitzscharte before ascending the North-East Ridge. Both climbs involve easy scrambling and take roughly two and a half to three hours from their respective huts.
