The Königsberg is a hill rising to about 454 metres in the Harz range near Goslar in Lower Saxony. It stands two kilometres south-west of Goslar’s old town centre, between the Granestausee reservoir fed by the Grane river on the west and the Steinberg ridge to the north-east. The hill’s south-western summit, roughly 435 metres high, carries the remains of a former tuberculosis sanatorium that later became a children’s home.
The ruins include crumbling brick walls and concrete terraces that once housed patients and staff. The sanatorium opened in the early 20th century to treat people recovering from tuberculosis. After the Second World War it was reorganised as a children’s home and remained in use until the 1990s.
Visitors reach the site along quiet forest paths that start near the Granestausee. From the summit there are wide views over the reservoir and across the Harz hills. The ruins themselves are scattered among birch and pine trees, giving the place a calm, reflective atmosphere.
