Taunton Town Football Club plays in the Southern League Premier Division South at Wordsworth Drive in Taunton, Somerset. The club moved to its present ground in 1953 after earlier spells at Mountfields, French Weir and Victoria Park. Wordsworth Drive has covered stands on all four sides of the pitch and has seen record crowds of over three thousand. The ground began as a council lease in the 1950s before the club bought it in the 1970s and added floodlights. It has since carried different sponsorship names including Viridor and Cygnet Health Care. The club’s history shows steady progress from local leagues to national competition. Formed in 1947, Taunton won the Western League in 1968–69 under manager Doug Hillard. They claimed the FA Vase in 2001 after a narrow defeat in 1994, and reached the first round of the FA Cup in 2016–17. Promotion to the National League South came in 2021–22 after victory on the final day against Farnborough.
