Pfarrkirche Lessach

The parish church of Lessach stands in the village of Lessach in the Tamsweg district of Salzburg. It is dedicated to Saint Paul and belongs to the Tamsweg deanery of the Archdiocese of Salzburg. The church is protected as a historic monument. The building has a long history. A church was first recorded in 1523. In 1618 it became a curacy, and in 1763 the nave was rebuilt while the choir remained. It became a parish church in 1813. After fires in 1857 and 1908, the present neo-Gothic structure was built between 1909 and 1910 using the old walls. It was consecrated in 1910 and restored externally in 1951 and again in 1967. Inside, visitors find three neo-Gothic altars made by Vinzenz Pezzei in 1910. They display sculptures from the Bachlechner school and paintings by Josef Gold from 1920–21. The organ, built by Mauracher in 1910, has ten registers. The church sits beside a cemetery and the parish house, all part of the protected ensemble described in the Dehio survey of 1986.
