Jermyn Street Theatre
Jermyn Street Theatre is a small studio theatre in the West End of London, on Jermyn Street in the City of Westminster. It occupies a former cellar and changing room that once served the Kent & Sussex Tavern. The space was converted in 1994 into a 70-seat venue by Howard Jameson and Penny Horner, who still lead the theatre today. The building has a long history, dating back to at least the 19th century. It remains one of London’s most intimate performance spaces. The theatre has built a strong reputation for reviving rare plays and producing new works. Notable productions include the UK premiere of Henrik Ibsen’s *St John’s Night* and the postwar classic *The River Line*. In 2012, it premiered Samuel Beckett’s *All That Fall*, directed by Trevor Nunn with Eileen Atkins and Michael Gambon. The theatre has won awards, including The Stage Fringe Theatre of the Year twice and a Critics Circle Award for digital work during lockdown. Visitors find an intimate 70-seat auditorium with a programme of new plays, rare revivals and adaptations. Recent seasons have featured works by women playwrights and international writers. The theatre also hosts one-off literary events and digital performances. Its location in the West End makes it easy to combine with nearby attractions. The space retains the character of its past, with a modest but welcoming atmosphere.
