Pudding Mill Lane railway station

Pudding Mill Lane station stands beside the River Lea in Stratford, east London. It opened in 1996 on a light industrial site that once housed a water mill shaped like a pudding. The station sits between Bow Church and Stratford on the DLR’s Poplar branch, close to the boundary of fare zones two and three. Trains run every few minutes to Stratford and Canary Wharf, with extra services at peak times. A new, larger station replaced the original in 2014 after the old one closed for safety during the 2012 Olympics. The rebuilt station was designed by Weston Williamson for Newham Council. It has three-car platforms, step-free access and better links to buses. The upgrade doubled the single-track stretch and added a ramp for Crossrail tunnels nearby. In 2022 the station became the main arrival point for visitors to the ABBA Arena across the road. A merchandise shop opened inside the entrance to serve concert crowds. Visitors find a modern viaduct station with wide platforms and clear signage. Escalators lead to street level where buses stop beside the River Lea towpath. The surrounding area is being redeveloped into homes near the Olympic Park. The station’s name recalls the old Pudding Mill River and the 19th-century Knob Hill district.
