Llandyfaelog House Motte
Llandyfaelog House Motte stands in the quiet countryside near Llandyfaelog in Powys. It is a small medieval earthwork castle built between the late 11th and mid-12th centuries. Unlike many such mounds, it lacks the usual surrounding defensive wall called a bailey. Norman lords introduced this style of fortification from France, but Welsh rulers soon adopted it. Most surviving examples in Britain appear along the Welsh Marches, including Powys and nearby counties. Cadw recognises the site as a scheduled monument, listing it as BR191. The mound measures about 27 metres across and rises 5.1 metres high. A ditch surrounds the base on most sides. Visitors find a simple grassy mound with wide views over the rolling hills of mid-Wales.
