Hintere Michlbachspitze

The Hintere Michlbachspitze is a 2,905-metre peak in the Gschlößkamm range of the Venediger Group in northern East Tyrol. It stands between the Dabernitzkogel to the northwest, the Raneburgkogel to the east and the Vorderen Michlbachspitze to the south. The Dabernitzturmscharte lies just north of the summit at 2,874 metres, while the Michlbachscharte to the east marks the route to the Raneburgkogel. A broad southern ridge slopes gently down to the Vorderen Michlbachspitze, and to the north the Dabernitzkees glacier fills the hollow between the Dabernitzkogel and the Raneburgkogel. Though not a major alpine objective, the Hintere Michlbachspitze is climbed by mountaineers seeking a straightforward route. The normal ascent begins in the Frosnitztal and crosses the Hochboden ‘Innere Dabernitzach’ before reaching the summit without a marked path. The north ridge from the Dabernitzturmscharte was first climbed by F. Malcher on 17 July 1920 and includes easy UIAA grade I climbing. The peak’s modest technical demands make it a training ground for aspiring alpinists. From the summit, the view stretches across the Venediger Group and down into the Frosnitztal. The surrounding peaks of the Gschlößkamm form a jagged horizon, while the Dabernitzkees glacier glistens below. The broad southern ridge offers a clear line of descent, and the Michlbachscharte provides a straightforward route eastwards. The peak’s quiet ridges and open summit give a sense of remoteness despite its modest height.
