Heimatkundliches Museum St Gilgen

The Heimatkundliches Museum Sankt Gilgen stands in a protected former farm building first recorded in 1652. The complex includes a side-wing with a gabled entrance and an upper storey built in traditional log construction, its beams dated 1655, 1668 and 1770. Since 1980 the site has housed a local history museum showcasing crafts such as wood-turning, lace-making and glass-blowing. The museum displays religious artefacts, nativity figures, furniture and household items from the 19th century. It also preserves documents about famous visitors who helped turn the village into a tourist destination. The building itself received national awards in 1994, 2001 and 2003 for its museum work. Inside, visitors find rooms arranged to show how local trades were organised and practised. The collections include tools, finished pieces and photographs that bring the crafts to life. Outside, the historic square and surrounding lanes give a sense of the village’s long development.
