Tal y Fan

Tal y Fan is a mountain in North Wales, part of the Carneddau range. It stands between the Conwy valley and the coastal town of Penmaenmawr. The peak is the most northerly summit in Wales to exceed 2,000 feet. Four Marilyns make up the Carneddau, and Tal y Fan is one of them. Bwlch y Ddeufaen separates it from the main ridge, where Carnedd y Ddelw lies nearby. Pen y Castell lies directly south across the valley. The mountain’s height was confirmed in 2013 by the Ordnance Survey. A GPS measurement placed it at 609.98 metres, rounding up to 2,001 feet. This precision reinforced its status as a true mountain. Walkers often set out from Llanfairfechan to reach the summit. The route follows paths that rise steadily through open moorland. At the top, the view stretches across Snowdonia and the Irish Sea. The Conwy valley lies to the east, while Penmaenmawr marks the coast to the north-west. The Carneddau ridge forms a dramatic backdrop to the west. The contrast between high peaks and distant sea creates a striking scene. The summit offers a quiet place to rest after the climb.
