Saint Leopold III Church

The parish church of Urfahr-St. Leopold stands in the Urfahr district of Linz. It belongs to the Diocese of Linz and has been a parish church since 1972. The church was built between 1969 and 1971 under the direction of Gottfried Nobl, the Linz cathedral master builder. The church’s design is monumental, shaped like a cross with a flat roof and rounded inner corners. Its walls are made of red facing bricks with exposed concrete bands at the edges and divisions. The ground floor includes octagonal chapels, such as the baptismal chapel and the weekday chapel. Rudolf Kolbitsch created ornamental stained-glass windows in 1987 depicting the Stations of the Cross. A large painted crucifix by Helmut Michael Berger stands on a cross-shaped support in the nave. The church also features a weathered 18th-century crucifix torso in the weekday chapel. A statue of Saint Leopold by Maximilian Stockenhuber from 1989 stands on the facade. Inside, the baptismal chapel holds a nativity scene by Karl Gruber and a crucifix by Johann Forstner, both from 1987. A mosaic titled *Encounter* by K. Lukesch from 1998 can be seen on the courtyard side.
