Kugelmühle Teufelsgraben
The Kugelmühle Teufelsgraben is a stone mill set in the Teufelsgraben valley in the municipality of Seeham, part of Salzburg-Umgebung district. It stands beside the Wildkar waterfall as an open-air museum. The site shows how millstones once turned river water into smooth spherical stones. Between the 16th and early 19th centuries the valley housed many such mills. Their main products were ballast for ships and spherical projectiles for crossbows and early cannons. In 1983 the present building was rebuilt on the original foundations by the landowner Hermann Rosenstatter senior. A large barred window on the front wall lets visitors watch the reconstructed machinery inside. The single-storey mill sits under a pitched roof of dark shingles. A wooden chute carries water from the stream into the wheel pit, where a wooden wheel drives the millstones. Visitors can follow a short path along the brook to the nearby Wildkar waterfall. The surrounding beech and spruce woods add to the quiet, wooded atmosphere of the valley.
