Studiobühne Siegburg
The Studiobühne Siegburg is a private theatre ensemble in the centre of Siegburg, a Kreisstadt in North Rhine-Westphalia. It shares a building complex with the Schauspielschule Siegburg and the children’s theatre Theater Tollhaus. The complex is an extension to the former Royal Teachers’ Seminary, built in 1931 and once used by a local grammar school for science lessons. The theatre began in 1998 when Wolf Bongôrt von Roy moved his acting school from Bergisch Gladbach to Siegburg. After his departure in 2004, René Böttcher took charge and turned it into a state-recognised school for stage arts. In the 2010–11 season nearly 2 500 people attended its 87 performances, supported by local sponsors and ticket sales. Inside, the Studiobühne seats up to 80 spectators for each production. The stage is used by professional actors and students alike, under Böttcher’s artistic direction. A few metres away, the Theatre Tollhaus runs weekly drama courses for more than 60 children and young people, giving the city over 500 hours of youth theatre every year.
