Esher Theatre
Esher Theatre stands in the heart of Esher, a town in Elmbridge. The building began life in 1936 as a music hall off Esher High Street. For many years it housed King George’s Hall community centre. A major refurbishment by Charlie Swift of Swift Entertainment turned it into a modern performing arts venue. Funktion-One supplied the theatre’s sound system. The main space seats 200 while the standing area holds 350.
The theatre has quickly become one of Elmbridge’s largest workable stages. Since opening in September 2021 it has welcomed performers such as Harry Hill, Andy Parsons, Cliff Richard, Chris Jagger and Brian Blessed. Comedians Reginald D. Hunter, Milton Jones and Zoe Lyons have also appeared. Leee John from Imagination opened the venue on its first night. The Nutcracker ballet by Tchaikovsky was part of the first season.
Visitors find a 200-seat main theatre plus a 350-capacity standing area. The annual pantomime is a highlight, with recent productions starring Bobby Crush, Sinitta and Peter Straker. Local critics praised the 2022 Aladdin and the 2023 Dick Whittington. The theatre also hosts touring shows and one-off performances throughout the year. Its location just off the High Street makes it easy to reach.
