The Schlossberg near Wangen is the remains of a late medieval hilltop castle above Starnberg. It stands on a spur at 654 metres above sea level, about 1,150 metres south-west of St Ulrich’s church in Wangen. The roughly rectangular site stretches 270 metres from south-west to north-east and 80 metres from north-west to south-east, rising five to seven metres above the surrounding ground.

The castle once guarded a route between Percha and Wangen, where the land drops fifteen metres to the road below. Today the wooded mound is open to walkers and shows faint traces of walls and earthworks. Archaeologists recognise it as a medieval fortification with an outer barrier across the approach path.

Visitors find a quiet wooded hill with open glades and wide views over the Starnberg lakes. The site is marked by a small information board near the summit. Paths wind through beech and pine, and the only sounds are birdsong and the wind in the branches.
