The Burgwall Lossow is an ancient fortified settlement near Frankfurt (Oder), seven kilometres south of the city. It sits on a high plateau above the Oder river, protected by steep slopes and a wooden earthen rampart up to six metres tall. The site covers 4.8 hectares and was once a key defensive position for different cultures over centuries.

Excavations from 1919 to 1984 uncovered traces of Bronze Age metalworking and Iron Age dwellings. Fragments of casting moulds show skilled craftsmanship, while animal bones and plant remains reveal how people once lived. The site was later occupied by the Göritzer group in the early Iron Age before being abandoned and later rebuilt by Slavic settlers in the 8th century.

Visitors today see a quiet grassy mound surrounded by the remains of the old ramparts. The steep eastern slope, called the Steile Wand, drops down to the Oder floodplain. Archaeologists have found weapons, jewellery and human remains buried deep in the earth, offering glimpses into ancient rituals and daily life.
