Bodensee Region

The Regionalverband Bodensee-Oberschwaben covers the Bodensee district, the Ravensburg district and the Sigmaringen district in Baden-Württemberg. Its office stands in Ravensburg, a town known for its medieval old town and the imposing Ravensburg castle ruins. The region stretches from the shores of Lake Constance in the south to the Swabian Alb in the north. The association was set up in 1973 as a public-law body responsible for regional planning. It recognises Friedrichshafen, Ravensburg and Weingarten as the main urban centre of the area. Nine smaller centres—Bad Saulgau, Bad Waldsee, Leutkirch, Pfullendorf, Sigmaringen, Überlingen and Wangen—help organise services and transport across the countryside. Regional planners decide where homes, roads and businesses may be built. Visitors find a varied landscape of lake, hill and forest. Ravensburg’s old town has timber-framed houses and a lively market square. Sigmaringen’s castle sits high above the Danube valley. Lake Constance offers sailing, cycling paths and lakeside resorts. The region’s villages preserve centuries-old customs and produce local wines and cheeses.
