Fischau Castle

Schloss Fischau stands in Bad Fischau-Brunn in Lower Austria. It is a historic building whose origins go back to a small fortified house from the middle of the 12th century. The Starhemberg family first appears as lords in 12th-century records. Later owners included the Teuffenbach family in the 13th and 14th centuries. The Heussenstein counts acquired the castle in 1577 and held it until 1817. A major remodelling took place in 1728, and Erzherzog Rainer gave the building its present form in 1830. The castle, the nearby Berghof and former farm buildings across the road are all protected monuments. The castle now houses the Forum Bad Fischau cultural association. It runs concerts, exhibitions and creative workshops, including the Fischauer Klangbogen concert series held in the castle and its sculpture park. The Blaugelbe Viertelsgalerie Industrieviertel and Kulturvernetzung Industrieviertel are also based here. The association keeps the building alive with regular cultural events. Visitors find a carefully restored historic house set beside the Wiener Neustädter Straße. The sculpture park in the grounds hosts open-air events. Inside, rooms host changing exhibitions and workshops. The castle’s protected status preserves its 18th- and 19th-century appearance. Its programme of concerts and art shows draws local audiences throughout the year.
