The Kleiner Bösenstein stands at 2,395 metres in the Rottenmann Tauern range of the Austrian Alps. It sits on the main ridge between the higher Grosser Bösenstein to the north and the Perwurzgupf to the southwest. The Elendscharte col at 2,298 metres separates it from the Grosser Bösenstein, while the Perwurzpolster col at 1,814 metres links it to the Perwurzgupf. A rocky crest called the Perwurzleiten connects the mountain to the Perwurzpolster saddle. On its north-east side lies the small Grünelacke lake, and on the south-west side the Geißrinksee lake.

The mountain is reached by a marked hiking trail numbered 902 starting from Edelrautehütte hut. Another route follows the same trail 902 up from the Perwurzpolster col. Both paths climb through alpine meadows and rocky sections to the summit ridge. The final metres involve some scrambling over slabs and a short exposed step. The views from the top stretch across the Rottenmann Tauern peaks and down to the valleys below.

At the summit visitors find a modest metal cross and a summit register. The ridge offers narrow ledges with drop-offs on either side, so care is needed in windy conditions. The surrounding terrain is rugged limestone with patches of low alpine vegetation. The lakes below reflect the peaks in calm weather, adding to the mountain’s quiet appeal.
