Casate Ticino

Casate is a small village in the Lombardy region of Italy, part of the municipality of Bernate Ticino near Milan. It sits on the eastern bank of the Ticino river, about 27 kilometres west of the city. The village first appears in records from 1603, mentioned in the pastoral visits of Cardinal Federico Borromeo. Around the end of the 17th century, Abbot Ferdinand Crivelli had a church built for the local farmers. The church was completed and consecrated in 1705, and its interior still bears a plaque marking the occasion. The name Casate likely comes from the local dialect word *casates*, meaning scattered farmhouses across the fields. The village’s layout reflects this rural past, with quiet lanes lined by old stone houses and open countryside nearby. Bernate Ticino borders Casate to the south and west, while Cuggiono lies to the north and Mesero to the east. The Ticino river forms a natural boundary to the west, adding to the peaceful setting. Visitors find a quiet place where time moves slowly. The 18th-century church remains the village’s focal point, its modest façade opening into a single nave inside.
