Good shepherd church Bludenz
The Church of the Good Shepherd stands in Bludenz, a town in the Vorarlberg region of Austria. It serves the local Protestant community, uniting Lutherans following the Augsburg Confession and Reformed Christians guided by Ulrich Zwingli’s Swiss Reformation. The building sits along Oberfeldweg, a quiet street in the town’s upper district. The church was designed by architects Dehm and Nigg and built between 1935 and 1936. Its worship space occupies the upper floor of shared parish rooms, featuring a flat ceiling, tall rectangular windows and a straight balcony. Originally a preaching station, it became a parish church in 1965. The interior reflects the Reformation’s simplicity, with only the blue stained-glass windows drawing attention as they fill the room with light. A painting of the Good Shepherd by Johannes Troyer from 1935 hangs in the entrance. Two historic bronze bells hang in the tower. The larger, cast in 1729 by Peter Ernst of Lindau, weighs 250 kilograms and rings in C sharp. The smaller, made in 1792 by Franz Leopold Neumeyer, also from Lindau, weighs 140 kilograms and sounds in E. Since March 2021, the parish has been led by Pastor Christiane Assel.
