Dollartmuseum

The Dollartmuseum stands in Bunde, a village in East Frisia, Lower Saxony. It occupies the barn wing of the Wiemannshof, an 18th-century Gulfhof with its own farmstead. The main house once housed a restaurant and later a doctor’s surgery before the barn was converted into the museum. The museum opened in 1997 after the old Gulfhof was restored. Its displays focus on the Dollart’s history and the building of dikes. Other sections show traditional crafts and fishing methods, land drainage techniques, and the region’s natural landscapes. Visitors find tools and models that explain how people once worked the land and sea. Maps and photographs trace how the coastline changed over time. The building itself, with its wide barn doors and sturdy oak beams, gives a sense of how farm life was organised in past centuries.
