Schloss Fischbach
Schloss Fischbach stands in the village of Fischbach, part of Nittenau in the Upper Palatinate region of Bavaria. The building is a two-storey structure with a hipped roof, first erected in the early 18th century but with older foundations. It once formed part of a medieval castle complex surrounded by woodland near the Nittenau Forest. The house is now home to the local forestry office run by the Counts of der Mühle-Eckart, who have owned the estate since the 19th century. Its interior still shows fine craftsmanship from the 18th century, including a central hall with a richly decorated ceiling and a grand room displaying the combined coats of arms of Georg Sigismund Christoph von Thürheim and his wife. Visitors walk past the former stables and granary buildings that flank the main block. The east side links to the parish church of St Jakob, while parts of the old curtain wall remain along the west edge. Inside, the main staircase leads to rooms with delicate stucco work in floral and shell motifs, giving a glimpse of the refined lifestyle once enjoyed by the estate’s noble owners.
