Filialkirche hl. Valentin in Paßriach

The late-15th-century church of St Valentine stands on a low hill west of Passriach village in the municipality of Hermagor. The single-aisled nave has three bays and the choir one bay with a three-sided end. A timber bell turret rises above the roof, capped by a sharp pyramid spire. The interior is covered by a net-like ribbed vault resting on corbels, while the wide, low triumphal arch is a plain round shape. A large open porch shelters a stone sacrificial table, and the west door carries a carved wooden leaf from 1668. On the south wall a Baroque fresco of St Christopher dates from 1716. The high altar, built about 1670–80, rises in two storeys with twisted columns and rich scrollwork on base, pediment and side ears. The central statue of St Valentine from 1782 is flanked by a bishop and St Anthony the Hermit, while above sit statues of St John the Evangelist and St Stephen. The matching side altars carry paintings of a bishop saint and the risen Christ on one side, and the Virgin appearing to St Anthony of Padua on the other.
