Schloss Eichholz

Schloss Eichholz stands near Wesseling in North Rhine-Westphalia, a 19th-century country house built in stages on older farmsteads. Its name comes from the oak woods that once covered the land, first owned by a Benedictine convent. The estate passed through several hands before becoming a grand residence in the late 19th century. The site has witnessed centuries of change, from medieval convent lands to a war-damaged farm and later a private villa. In 1956 the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung turned it into a major education centre. After 2016 the building became a clinic specialising in trauma care and child psychiatry. Visitors find a landscaped park surrounding the main house, with remnants of the old oak forest still visible. Nearby, Roman foundations uncovered in 1986 show a villa rustica and its graveyard. The setting remains peaceful, a quiet reminder of the estate’s layered past.
